2019 Cabernet Franc

Our 2019 Cabernet Franc is a wine club favorite and my personal favorite Gård wine! Cabernet Franc originated in Bordeaux and is the parent grape of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's a traditional French varietal that can be used for blending or produced as a single varietal wine. In addition to France, you can find Cabernet Franc planted in many wine regions such as Washington, California, New York, Chile, etc.

2019 Cabernet Franc Tasting Notes:

The first impression of this complex wine shows aromas of spice, blackberry, black cherry, huckleberry and plum, with hints of sage, cinnamon, tobacco and baker’s chocolate. With some air in the glass, slate minerality comes forward along with notes of coffee and baked brown sugar.

The palate yields black fruits, wet leaves and cooked strawberries. This wine has a medium body, with slightly chalky tannins, great acidity to balance the fruit and add some liveliness, and finishes with length. This is a great food wine!

Food pairing suggestions:

Roasted lamb, meatballs with tomato sauce, roasted vegetables with rosemary, penne pasta with sausage, steak or chevre cheese.

Fun fact:

Cabernet Franc's bell pepper aroma comes from a substance called methoxypyrazines (often referred to as “pyrazines” for short), which is the plant's natural insect repellent.
