The Norse Legend that Inspired "Kvasir"

Our Kvasir is a newer addition to the Gård Vintners’ portfolio and the 2019 vintage is the second release of this wine. This blend consists of 74% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah and 13% Grenache, coming from Thunderstone and Scarline Vineyards on the Royal Slope - three important varietals found in Southern Rhone-style wines.

The name was inspired by the poet Kvasir, who was the wisest of all men in Norse mythology and is said to have been created from fermented berry juice. He was tragically slain, and his essence mixed with honey to become the "Mead of Poetry," which fills the drinker with wisdom and poetic prowess.

When swirling your glass, Kvasir expresses pronounced aromas of red fruits such as red plums, muddled raspberries and dried strawberries as well as tobacco, dried herbs, white pepper and stone minerality. The palate is delicate with smooth, silky tannins, medium acidity and shows some nice volume, adding to the mouthfeel with added flavors of raspberry tea and herbal notes adding great complexity to this lovely wine.

The 2019 Kvasir is a great wine to enjoy during the Fall season! You can pair some delicious, slightly heartier dishes with this wine, such as rosemary braised lamb shank, medium-rare prime rib and ratatouille!
